Yoga Options
Primary yoga styles include Hatha, Gentle, and Restorative.
Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga classes have a focus on asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) and are relatively gentle and slow. So these classes are generally an excellent option for beginners. Hatha Yoga sessions have three primary components; breathing exercises, poses or postures, and Savasana. These components collectively align and calm your body, mind, and spirit, allowing you to fully realize the many benefits that yoga can bring you.
Slow Flow, Gentle Yoga
Often described as the yoga for everyone, it’s a form of Hatha Yoga that’s practiced by both beginners and those with considerable experience. Gentle Yoga is soft on the body, and for this reason many people find that it provides the body an opportunity to restore itself. After all, life can be hard on our bodies, but during a Gentle Yoga session the body is calm and tranquil. The session has a therapeutic value that can be absent in more aggressive forms of yoga. The goal here is not to burn a ton of calories, but to support your mental, physical, and even spiritual needs.
Restorative Yoga
Feeling tired and burned out? Or maybe you’ve sustained an injury that you’re nursing back to health? If so, restorative yoga can be especially helpful for you. Restorative yoga classes consist of low-impact postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), and passive stretches that encourage the body to slow down and repair itself. Props are used to support the body during long-held poses, allowing the muscles to deeply relax.
