Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage uses heat from stones, and the massage motions from a therapist, to penetrate deeply into tissue.

For some people, there’s nothing quite as relaxing as a hot stone massage. But it’s actually much more than that. It’s a form of thermotherapy that has its origins in China, some 2000 years ago, and has been used in many cultures since. For example, Native Americans used heated stones to help cure different diseases and illnesses. More recently, it was in 1993 that Mary Nelson-Hannigan used heated stones in a therapy that she called “LaStone Therapy” to massage the body. It’s been perfected ever since and is now a very common, and popular, form of therapy.

Hot stone massage uses heat from stones, and the massage motions from a Therapist, to penetrate deeply into tissue, prompting relaxation, increased detoxification, and relief of long-standing muscular tension, stress and fatigue. During the procedure the heated stones are used to manipulate different tissues and nerves in the body. So even though people who get a hot stone massage will often feel great relaxation, it’s also a recognized form of therapy for people who have various health issues.
