Nowadays, there is a lot of focus on health conscious practices, from exercise and stress management to eating clean with organic choices and minimizing environmental hazards. We often give a lot of attention to what we eat and how much we exercise as we focus on keeping our physical body in shape to sustain as many years as we can on this planet.
Recently, I was pondering the importance of being healthy – the hard work and seriousness of the task at hand – and yet there is a substantial difference between being healthy and being vital. Health is a state of being free from illness or injury; vitality is a state of being strong and active, living in a space of exuberance and liveliness with a passion for the things we are doing and the people we are doing them with.
“Most men die at 27, we just bury them at 72.”
Take a moment to think about the things, people, and places that make you smile, that put a sparkle in your eye and a bounce in your step. Do you remember the first time you fell in love? That “twitterpated” sensation that you could feel lighting up your cells and propelling you forward into the adventure that you were so certain awaited you? When was the last time you felt an adventure calling to you to take risks that would support your growth and zest for life? Do you enjoy dancing or singing just for the love of it? When was the last time you let your heart guide you to experience something new, or laughed so hard you came dangerously close to falling out of your chair?
It is very important to take care of our physical health and our bodies so we can be around for the one’s we love. It is vital for us to spend time in the wondrous moments of life that fill us up with energy and unconditional happiness so we can glow with a light that attracts more truly satisfying experiences, enriched with love, fun and joy. We often take ourselves and responsibilities so seriously we forget that in vitality is the only way to really live!
